OfficeJoy

officejoy

OfficeJoy has been supplying Romanian offices with everything from paper and writing instruments to cleaning products and office technology since 2020. With more than 10,000 product variations across nine categories, the website needed to stay easy to browse while supporting both individual customers and companies placing larger or recurring orders.

With a catalog this size, performance also becomes part of the project itself. We wanted to keep the technical setup as lean as possible, using WooCommerce and Breakdance for the parts they already handle well instead of adding extra layers for every new requirement.

The Challenge

A large office-supplies catalog needs to help customers find a very specific product quickly, without making the site harder to maintain every time the inventory grows.

  • Organise more than 10,000 product variations across nine main categories
  • Give customers useful filtering by price, brand, and product type without adding unnecessary complexity
  • Serve regular online shoppers and business customers from the same catalog
  • Give companies ordering in volume an easy way to request personalised pricing
  • Keep the site fast and the technical setup manageable as the catalog continues to expand

What We Built for OfficeJoy

OfficeJoy runs on Breakdance and WooCommerce, with a deliberately small number of additional tools around them. Rather than solving the same problem through several overlapping plugins, we kept each part of the setup focused on a specific job.

That approach matters much more on a large catalog than it does on a small presentation site. Thousands of products, variations, images, filters, and archive pages all add up, so keeping the foundation simple makes the storefront easier to maintain and leaves more room for the catalog to grow.

The navigation is built around the nine main areas of the catalog: Office Supplies, IT Accessories, Printer Cartridges, Writing Instruments, Organisation & Filing, Cleaning Products, Paper Products, Display & Presentation Systems, and Office Technology.

The category structure stays visible and predictable throughout the site, so someone looking for a specific type of product can move between sections without repeatedly returning to the homepage.

Inside the catalog, customers can refine products by price, brand, and product type. We kept the filtering closely tied to WooCommerce product data rather than building a separate search system around the catalog, which keeps both the storefront and the administration simpler.

The homepage also brings selected products forward through a rotating recommendations section. This gives returning customers and people browsing without a specific product in mind another way into the catalog, whether that means discovering everyday office supplies, cleaning products, or smaller items that are easy to add to an existing order.

OfficeJoy also serves companies that do not necessarily want to place a standard retail order. Prices remain visible for self-service customers, while business buyers can request a personalised offer when ordering larger quantities or discussing commercial terms.

WhatsApp is available alongside that flow as a faster contact option, allowing the same catalog to support both straightforward online purchases and more relationship-driven B2B orders.

Common Questions

Why Breakdance?

For this project, it gave us the flexibility to build the storefront and WooCommerce templates we needed without adding a large page-builder ecosystem around them. On a catalog with thousands of products and variations, keeping the frontend structure reasonably lean was an important consideration from the beginning.

Why keep the plugin stack small?

Because every additional layer has to be maintained alongside the catalog. Where WooCommerce or Breakdance already handled a requirement well, we preferred to use that existing functionality and add something else only when it solved a clear problem.

How do you keep a catalog this size responsive?

The site combines a lean frontend setup with full-page caching and LiteSpeed hosting, served over HTTP/3 with compressed assets. The goal is not to treat performance as a final optimisation step, but as part of the architecture of the store from the beginning.

The Result

A large WooCommerce catalog that remains straightforward to browse and maintain despite more than 10,000 product variations. Customers can move quickly between categories, narrow down products using practical filters, and either order normally or move into a personalised B2B conversation when their requirements are more complex.

For OfficeJoy, the important part is that the technical foundation can continue growing with the catalog instead of becoming something that has to be worked around every time new products or requirements are added.
